My Story

The art of henna has always been a very prominent feature in my life, ever since a young age I have always loved the artistic approach of henna, and when I began playing with the art from the age of 12, it came very naturally to me. As I am from a henna-immersed culture; Pakistan, I have always loved the freedom and expression one can create with it, and as I have grown so has my henna skills, therefore I realized that I would enjoy providing and introducing henna to others. My inspiration for my work is my culture. Henna By Nadia is born out of a combination of my passion, culture, and personality, which allows my perspective as an artist to remain traditional yet contemporary.

About Henna

Henna has been in practice for over hundreds of decades, by many different cultures, including Africa, the Middle-East and even Asia. Henna, also known as mehndi, is dye/paste created from a plant known as Lawsonia Inermis. The plant’s leaves are dried and crushed in order to create a fine powder, which is mixed with various essential oils and natural ingredients, in which a red dye paste can be formed. The paste is then poured into a plastic cone and applied to the skin. The paste then flakes off revealing a brownish-reddish-orange, stain. Henna is typically applied on hands and feet, as these specific areas of the body tend to stain the darkest. For many generations, henna has been used for special occasions and is most typically used by Asians cultures for what is known as “Mehndi” where close relatives and friends gather around for the application of henna on a bride before the wedding and through the art of henna, people are continuously brought together.
